Synthomer’s Regulatory Affairs team combines scientific, legal and corporate awareness to ensure our products are developed and manufactured in line with industry and government standards.

The team works with Synthomer’s business units, production sites and R&D centres to ensure our products are all fully compliant before they are allowed to enter the marketplace.

The team is also active in several industry and market- based groups. This ensures that Synthomer stays one step ahead of any legislation changes that may affect customers and our business.

REACH compliance

We are committed to achieving full compliance with the REACH requirements. We believe that provides the opportunity to add to our excellent record of regulatory compliance and Responsible Care®, and that working closely with our suppliers and customers is key to ensuring compliance.

We have taken all necessary steps to make REACH an integral part of our ongoing business throughout pre-registration, the three transitional phase-in registration deadlines, and beyond. We make sure that our REACH activities are fully in line with the Cefic guidelines.

The vast majority of our products fall within the Polymer Exemption. We of course ensure that the individual substances contained in the mixture are registered in their own right for the required use – and as a result, most of our products require little further assessment to comply with the current REACH legislation.

That said, we review our full product portfolio to identify products that do not meet the Polymer Exemption criteria so that we can take appropriate action for those materials.

Safe materials handling

The Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures legislation (CLP) aims to implement the United Nations’ Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) within the EU. CLP legislation replaced the Dangerous Substances Directive (67/548/EEC) and the Dangerous Preparations Directive (1999/45/EC) and will amend REACH (EC) No.1907/2006.

We are committed to achieving full compliance with the CLP requirements, working closely with our suppliers and customers. We have established a CLP project team to ensure that we adhere to our duties under the CLP Regulation and the deadlines that apply to Synthomer under the transitional periods of CLP.

The vast majority of Synthomer products fall under the definition of mixtures, and we will report any substances to the Classification and Labelling (C&L) Inventory when required.
