Dandelion as Natural Latex Source: Synthomer as Project Partner in Exploring More Sustainable Raw Materials

London, 10.02.2020

Synthomer is continuously exploring the future of latex. As part of a project targeted at the extraction of natural latex from dandelion, Synthomer is examining ways to use the natural latex source as base material for health and foam applications: In 2017, Synthomer succeeded to manufacture a glove made from the naturally occurring material – a world first. Further research is currently targeted at creating foam for use in everyday products such as mattresses.

As part of the exhibition “International Green Week” in Berlin, the FNR (Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V.) has published a booklet centered around the project and its involved partners. To view the brochure in full, click the PDF below.

In Germany, FNR (Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V.) and BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) are the central coordinating institutions for research, development and demonstration projects in the field of renewable resources. The dandelion Project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
