  • Synthomer publishes research efforts on bio-based polymers in the European Coatings Journal

    27. September 2017

To address the ever-increasing demand for sustainable, renewable and bio-based materials, research efforts have been carried out to evaluate bio-based monomers for dispersion polymerisation.

The research focused on looking at several acrylic polymers including 2-Octyl Acrylate (2-OA) as a substitute for n-Butyl Acrylate (BA), and Isobornyl Methacrylate (IBOMA) as a substitute for Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) & Styrene monomer (SM). The polymers were evaluated in both clear and pigmented formulations for the wood coatings industry.
