Synthomer’s coalescing agents achieve optimal film formation by improving the properties of paints and coatings. Traditionally, coalescing agents had high-VOC and low biodegradability. With tightening environmental legislation, there is a requirement for biodegradable coalescing agents and plasticisers with higher boiling points. Synthomer responds to this demand with two state-of-the-art products to complement our broad range of environmentally-responsible binders and additives for coatings, construction, textile and adhesive applications.
SYNTHOMER™ NX 795 (2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol-isobutyrate)

Intended Uses:
Multipurpose ester alcohol used as (i) a coalescent agent in waterbased resin dispersions; paints and coatings; (ii) a retarder solvent in high-bake coatings; (iii) a co-solvent or plasticizer in cosmetics and ink applications; (iv) an intermediate for the synthesis of ester derivatives for plasticizers and (v) an additive for chemical separation processes in mineral processing, pulp & paper and water treatment.
SYNTHOMER™ NX 800 (1-isopropyl-2,2-dimethyltrimethylene diisobutyrate)

Intended Uses:
Multipurpose Trimethyl Pentanyl Diisobutyrate used as (i) a diluent in MEK peroxides; (ii) a low viscosity plasticizer for PVC Plastisols; (iii) a non-phthalate plasticizer in adhesives, sealants and copolymers; (iv) a plasticizer in cosmetics and ink; and (v) a high boiling point coalescing agent in water-based resin dispersions, paints and coatings.
Both products are compatible with a wide range of polymer dispersions and latices used in coatings.
