Application Advice/Typical Applications

PYRATEX 221 is used together with precondensed resorcinol formaldehyde resins for impregnating textile reinforcing materials for the rubber industry such as tyre cords or conveyor belt fabrics.Due to its high surface tension PYRATEX 221 is distinguished by reduced penetration and uniform surface coverage of the fabric even at low dip pick up. Addition of rosin or fatty acid soap is recommended if full penetration of the cord or fabric is required. Dip formulations used in the RFL (Resorcinol Formaldehyde Latex) process depend on the fabric to be impregnated as well as the resorcinol formaldehyde resin in use. The resin may either be prepared by the user himself or can be obtained as a precondensate.Rayon is commonly impregnated using a RFL-dip in which the latex share is a mixture of PYRATEX 221 and a suitable styrene-butadiene latex. For impregnating polyamide, polyester, and aramide RFL-dips based on 100 % PYRATEX 221 are recommended (without styrene-butadiene latex). With polyester and aramide good adhesion is achieved only when a suitable predip (e.g. with epoxy compounds) is applied.

Shipping and Storage

Store at an even temperature of between +5°C and +35°C avoiding frost and direct sunlight. Stir product before use. If stored according to these conditions and in the original unopened containers, the dispersion will be stable for 6 months following delivery. Product should be used as soon as possible after opening. During processing, storage and transport, avoid any contact with metals (including non-ferrous metals) which are not protected against corrosion. Detailed information is available on request.
