Application Advice/Typical Applications

Rohagit X 4050 serves as a starting material for thickening agents. Instruction for use: Manufacturing instructions for 100 kg thickening agent (solids content approx. 10 %): start with 17.0 kg Rohagit X 4050 and 77.4 kg tap water and add 5.6 kg caustic soda solution (50 %) with stirring, within 10 min. Stir the composition again for about 15 min. to ensure homogenous distribution and leave to stand for 1 day. The heat generated during the saponification reaction causes a slight increase in the temperature of the composition. The viscosity of the composition changes constantly whilst it is left to stand. Within the first 3 - 6 hours, pronounced thickening sets in, giving the composition a pudding-like consistency. After 24 hours, the product is viscous but easy to handle, with a viscosity (Brookfield LVT, spindle IV / 6 r·min-1) of approx. 20.000 to 50.000 mPa·s. The thickening agents thus obtained are suitable for thickening synthetic polymer emulsions, finishes, compounds and other aqueous preparations which may be weakly acid, neutral or alkaline. They can be stirred directly into the composition to be thickened. The dosage depends on the required viscosity adjustment.

Shipping and Storage

Store at an even temperature of between +5°C and +35°C avoiding frost and direct sunlight. Stir product before use. If stored according to these conditions and in the original unopened containers, the dispersion will be stable for 6 months following delivery. Product should be used as soon as possible after opening. During processing, storage and transport, avoid any contact with metals (including non-ferrous metals) which are not protected against corrosion. Detailed information is available on request.
