LIPREN SK is an aqueous, colloidal dispersion of polymerised 2-chlorobutadiene (1,3). It is mainly used to impregnate fabrics for toe puff and counter material. Films made of LIPREN SK have a very strong crystallisation tendency.

Technical Informations

Application Advice/Typical Applications

Due to its high disposition to crystallise, LIPREN SK forms stiff films. LIPREN SK is not affected by a large number of organic and inorganic chemicals, including various acids. It provides a high resistance to weathering, ozone and heat, when processed in the appropriate way. ZnO can be added as cross-linker. When finishing needle felts at least 7.5 phr of zinc oxide should be added to the compound in order to improve the ageing behaviour though Lipren SK already contains an antioxidant. ZnO also acts as an acceptor of hydrogen chloride, which is slowly released in the course of time, depending on the temperature. In some applications it is necessary to add an extra portion of antioxidant to ensure sufficient ageing protection. Consequently users should examine from case to case, whether it is needed to add even more antioxidant or not.The dispersion can be destabilised if the pH is too low. This can occur as a result of the slow, but permanent, release of hydrochloric acid. If the pH falls below the specification limit, it should be re-adjusted to its initial value before processing the dispersion by adding aqueous KOH of 5% concentration. Avoid any contact of the product with metals which are not corrosion-resistant. Due to its high pH, LIPREN SK is protected against bacterial attack during storage. Additional conservation with suitable agents can be necessary when compounding the material.

Shipping and Storage

Store at an even temperature of between +5°C and +35°C avoiding frost and direct sunlight. Stir product before use. If stored according to these conditions and in the original unopened containers, the dispersion will be stable 6 months following delivery. Product should be used as soon as possible after opening. During processing, storage and transport, avoid any contact with metals (including non-ferrous metals) which are not protected against corrosion. Detailed information is available on request.
