Yule Catto & Co. Limited was incorporated to take over the business of George Yule & Co. The Company was controlled by members of the family of the first Lord Catto and acted as London agents for industrial and plantation undertakings in India and Asia. During the subsequent fifty years, the company acquired a diverse group of subsidiary companies and built up a portfolio of investments, primarily in British companies.

Yule Catto & Co. Limited merged with Malaya General Company Limited, an owner and operator of rubber plantations in Malaysia. Malaya General Company Limited became the holding company and changed its name to Yule Catto & Co. Limited.

On 14 October, Yule Catto & Co. Limited was listed on the London Stock Exchange.

1980
By 1980, Yule Catto was engaged in the operation of marinas, rubber and oil palm plantations, and had investments in oil exploration. In that year it acquired Revertex Chemicals Limited, an international group engaged in the processing of natural rubber latex and the manufacture of synthetic rubber latices, resins and emulsions.

Yule Catto & Co. Limited changed its name to Yule Catto & Co. plc.

1998
Yule Catto acquired Holliday Chemical Holdings PLC, a manufacturer of a wide range of chemicals, including active pharmaceutical chemicals, pigments, dyes and metal salt compounds.

A range of businesses was divested and Yule Catto became a focused supplier of speciality polymers.

2011
Acquisition of PolymerLatex, headquartered in Marl, Germany, with operations in Europe and Asia, a manufacturer of speciality polymers including SBR, HSSBR and NBR latices and a range of acrylic dispersions.

Yule Catto & Co. plc changed its name to Synthomer plc.

The Group completed the acquisition of the Performance and Adhesives Coatings business of Hexion Inc. and sold Revertex South Africa (Pty) Limited.

The Group acquired 100% of the issued share capital of Perstorp Oxo Belgium AB, a specialities chemical company.
