At work we’re guided by five core values and associated behaviours that we all share.
Synthomer’s values were developed based on feedback by our employees. As a result, they represent the key expectations of everyone in the company. They define the way we go about our business, and we believe they capture the essence of Synthomer as a modern, ethical, safe, ambitious and fun place to work.
- Safety, health and environment - We always have time to work safely
The health and safety of our employees is, and always will be, our top priority. This also includes immediate reporting of injuries, incidents or near misses. - Accountability - We deliver on our promises
Crucially, this applies to the promises we make to our customers – whether it is in meeting or exceeding their expectations in terms of new product development or in supplying them with our products in time and in full. - Integrity - We act with integrity and show respect
We follow the law and our Code of Conduct which provides guidance on decision making in challenging situations. And we value other people and their differences. - Teamwork - We are stronger as one team
Teamwork is grounded on mutual trust and fuelled by open and respectful communication – enabling team members to share perspectives, constructively challenging each other and holding each other accountable. - Innovation - We welcome change and new ideas
Innovation is typically about creating useful new products or services, but can also be seen daily in improved processes, new business models, enhanced customer service, modern software implementations, improvements to our workplace safety and sustainability efforts, and more.
Leadership attributes
Our core values are coupled with attributes that we expect from, and develop in, all our leaders. We see every employee as a leader in driving our strategy forward. So, regardless of whether an employee leads a business, a team, a project or themselves, we have established a set of commitments for all leaders in the organisation.
- Inspiring vision and purpose
- Delivering value
- Setting standards
- Nurturing talent
- Taking ownership
- Dealing with ambiguity
Each attribute includes a set of behavioural statements guiding the way on what is expected of leaders.
Our intention is to embed these attributes in daily life at work, and they also help us assess new recruits and drive leadership programmes.
"We believe in continuous conversations as a key driver for employee engagement. We have launched a new leadership development portal, which contains a wealth of useful resources and tools. The next generation of Synthomer leaders will particularly benefit from our ‘first-time leader’ roadmap, which provides practical guidance on coaching others."
