Application Advice/Typical Applications

LIPATON SB 4520 is preserved against bacterial and fungal attack. In the manufacture of finished products, the material has to be retreated, as usual, with suitable biocides to give enhanced preservation.

Above minimum film forming temperature LIPATON SB 4520 forms a clear, slightly tacky film. LIPATON SB 4520 is characterized by high flexibility even in the cold and good water resistance. Owing to these properties, LIPATON SB 4520 is particularly suitable for use in such coatings as are employed for the protection of metal (stone chip, corrosion protection) or mineral substrates. For this purpose, the polymer dispersion can be used as a sole binder or in combination with anionically stabilized harder dispersions (e. g. LIPATON SB 5521) or other binders like anionic bitumen emulsions. Main applications are thick-film systems such as: stone chip protection / underbody protection coatings, drone-deadening compounds, seam-sealing compounds, bitumen products, and flexible sealing coatings. LIPATON SB 4520 has good adhesion to degreased, bright metal (iron, steel, zinc, aluminum), phosphated or lead-coated sheet steel. Owing to the limited uv-stability of styrene-butadiene copolymers it has to be tested, whether the binder meets the demands concerning weatherability. LIPATON SB 4520 is fully compatible with commonly used fillers, pigments and paint auxiliaries and has a high filler loading capacity. Normal mixing equipment can be used for processing whilst vacuum planetary mixers have proved their worth in the preparation of highly viscous products.

Shipping and Storage

LIPATON SB 4520 is supplied in road tankers or in non-returnable plastics drums secured by a lid with clamping ring or in non-returnable palletized bulk containers (net weight 1,000 kg). LIPATON SB 4520 has to be stored protected from frost and, as far as possible, below 40 °C. Storage at temperatures between + 5 and + 30 °C is recommendable. LIPATON SB 4520 contains a preservative to counter microbial attack during transportation. To protect it against germination during subsequent storage, absolutely stringent plant hygiene and, under certain circumstances, the addition of suitable preservatives will be necessary. Care must be taken to ensure that drums and storage containers are tightly closed. During processing, storage and transport of the product contact with metals unprotected against corrosion (likewise non ferrous metals) has to be avoided. When stored correctly LIPATON SB 4520 has a storage life of 12 months from date of delivery.
