Litex® T 58K20 is an aqueous dispersion of a carboxylated styrene-butadiene copolymer. The dispersion was developed for secondary backing, particularly for the two coat process. When this technique is employed the handle of the carpet is mainly influenced by the choice of the dispersion for the precoat. Litex® T 58K20 also can be used for the one coat process. When this technique is employed the dispersion gives the carpet a hard handle.
Litex® T 58K20 contains an antioxidant.
Litex® T 58K20 is used with fillers such as calciumcarbonate, or can be used as a filler-free system. The filler content of compound should be kept as low as economically possible, in order to ensure that the finished article is capable of being recycled after its useful life. If Litex® T 58K20 is used with higher filler-levels and / or antistatic-agents, the compatibility has to be tested. If there are problems with the compatibility, it is possible to add a surface active agent or dispersing agents. The viscosity of compounds can be adjusted to the desired level using the normal acrylate thickeners which are well known in the industry (e.g. alkalised Plextol® T 70S10). The dispersion, or compounds based on it, can be frothed using a foaming machine and spread using a doctor roller or blade. The foam density is usually in the range of 500-600 grams per litre. The correct use of Litex® T 58K20 ensures excellent filament-lock, a high tuft anchorage to the base fabric, and durable bond to the secondary cloth.
Litex® T 58K20 has good storage characteristics and also good mechanical and chemical stability.
Shipping and Storage
Litex® T 58K20 is normally delivered in road tankers. Shipment in 1 ton containers is also possible for customers who are just taking small quantities. The storage temperature of the dispersion should not fall below + 5 °C and not exceed + 40 °C. In air-tight, unopened, original drums or containers, and provided the storage conditions are met, the dispersion is stable for 6 months after delivery. However a slight drying of the surface, or some cream formation cannot be ruled out. It is therefore advisable that the dispersion, or compounds made from it, should be stirred, or mixed before use. The contents containers, should be used up as soon as possible after opening.
